Uzbekistan is much richer to historical and ancient cities than any other Central Asian countries. There are many cities with hundreds of architectural monuments from different centuries. Among the most famous are, Khiva, Bukhara, Samarkand, Shakhrisabz, Termez and Kokand which were centers of science and art.
Throughout the centuries best architects of medieval times created palaces, mosques and mausoleums, world famous monuments of ancient architecture, to memorialize Alexander the Great, Chengiz Khan and for sure great Tamerlane. Unfortunately many of these great masterpieces did not survive throughout, but by visiting those which have been preserved it is possible to glimpse the pages of the past.
